[EDIT:] I was tired when I submitted this ('twas a bit late ), so I completely forgot to mention that this picture was drawn for . Apparently, she likes it! Yay!
I was asked to draw my own interpretation of Ratix Farrence, the main character of Star Ocean (the first game of the series). I never got very far in the first Star Ocean game, so I don't know much about Ratix. I based this picture on the first time he boards a spaceship and sees what his friend Milly describes as a "star ocean".
I took a few liberties with the design, since there wasn't much reference art to be found (I was amazed at how little Ratix gets drawn, poor lad). The major change was his ponytail. It didn't speak to me at all, so I thought: "Why waste nice bishounen potential"? And off came the ponytail. He ended up reminding me very much of a young and unspoiled Dias. But I like his expression very much. I love drawing faces. As much as I hate drawing armour. >__< Actually, the picture was bigger: I cut the bottom half, because the armour really looked hideous. I need to practice more, I suppose.
My first attempt at doing a prettyful sky, and it came out very well! Still a bit iffy, but I like it very much.
Me too, me too! Not sure about the new character designs, though. I don't really like that pastel-flat style, too "Tales of" for me. The Star Ocean series needs to have it's own identity, imho.
The game itself looks gorgeous, though! Hope it will be translated! ^^
He does, doesn't he? ^^ I'm very happy with the way this pic came out!
I've become quite fond of the Star Ocean characters, I might draw more. They really need more love, they're overshadowed by the casts of the next games of the series. :/
